The Best Dresses to Flatter Your Body Type

Posted by Claire Erickson on

Dior once said, "however much you admire a certain dress on somebody else before you wear a similar one for yourself you must think to yourself 'What will this do for me?'." What great advice, even from so long ago.

Since there are so many body types, it can be hard to choose what works best for you, but we have some ideas to help out! Be sure to scroll down to shop our fashionable picks.

1. Sexy Ruffles Dress

Looking to show off you legs? Be sure to wear a dress with a shorter skirt then! And here is a helpful tip from Who What Wear-- add a pair of skin-colored pumps to make your legs look even longer!

The cut of this dress is so stunning we don't want you to distract from it, so add only the essential accessories like engagement rings. A bun with this look is great for a casual lunch with girlfriends, whereas a blowout is great for a night on the town.

COLORS: Black, Pink, Red, Yellow

2. Cutout the Noise Dress

Don't have curves? No problem! Who What Wear suggests getting a dress with some cutouts like the one shown above. Cutout dresses will "make your waist look smaller compared to your bust and hip."

Don't like short sleeves? No problem! A bolero will do. Remember we don't want to cover those cutouts. Also, some red statement pumps with bow would top this outfit off!

COLORS: Black, Burgundy, Green, Red

3. Geometric Biz Dress

Want to show off your curves? There are plenty of ways to do so in our Curvy Work Dresses, however, we think this dress will be perfect  for everyone. Why? The belt! A belt can emphasize any waist.

For this dress, we recommend pairing it with nude heels shown above for a day at the office, or be creative like Lydia Rose (a UK based fashion blogger) and tuck the skirt into the belt for a shorter look in the evening. Some examples of how she does this can be shown here.

4. Go With The Flow Dress

Need a bigger bust? An Empire waistline is what you're looking for. The high waistline draws the eyes up and puts more attention on your bodice.

The flowy fabric of this dress is begging to be blown in the breeze at a picnic, so we recommend some comfortable shoes like the new Steven sandals from Steve Madden and an oversized nude cardigan.

COLORS: Grey, Blue, Green, Black
